By:Wu Qiong  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2017-09-20 15:44

Good news for Shanghai diners: The 2018 Michelin Guide Shanghai results were released on Wednesday, September 20. Overall 30 of Shanghai's finest food and beverage venues were awarded the highly coveted Michelin stars, along with 27 Bib Gourmand winners.

The food guide awarded two restaurants three Michelin stars (T’ang Court and ULTRAVIOLET by Paul Pairet), six restaurants two Michelin stars (8 ½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana, L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon, Canton 8, Yi Long Court, YongFoo Elite and Imperial Treasure), and 22 restaurants one Michelin star.

This year, five restaurants gained a star for the first time, which serve a wide variety of cuisines and dishes.

The level of Shanghai’s local cuisine is steadily improving and the cooks here are bolder to display their creativity, which is good news for local consumers who are looking forward to discovering new flavors and experiences, said Michael Ellis, International Director of the Michelin Guides.

As a global standard for gourmet dining, the Michelin Guide is the most respected restaurant guide in the world. One star indicates “high quality cooking, worth a stop,” two stars is given for “excellent cooking, worth a detour,” while three, the guide’s highest rating, means “exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey.” The Bib Gourmand is given to restaurants offering “exceptional good food at moderate prices,” meaning restaurants where diners can enjoy a full meal for no more than RMB 200.
