As the Chinese New Year around the corner, the Shanghai police are promoting safety education, especially the fireworks ban, among citizens, including foreign residents.

Recently, officers from a police station in the city’s Changning District, together with some firefighters from the local fire brigade, have carried out a safety education campaign among foreign residents.

The officers handed out notification and pamphlets to expats in the local community and international schools, reminding them of the ban on fireworks and firecrackers. To help foreigners from different countries better understand the safety policies, all the words were written in Chinese, English, Korean and Japanese languages.

The expats took part in the campaign actively. They also helped the police put up campaign posters in their neighborhood.

What’s more, to encourage people to celebrate the upcoming holiday in a safer and more interesting way other than setting off fireworks, the officers taught the expats how to write Spring Festival couplets.
