Chinese bike-sharing company Ofo Inc announced that it would open bike management data platform to 200 cities across the nation, with 20 main cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu being the first batch.

Named “Qi Dian”, the big data sharing system is developed by Ofo itself. Through the system, the government could get access to information of the number of bikes put on the market, bikes’distribution, thermodynamic diagram of riding, riding distance, etc.

According to Ma Jun, operation manager of Ofo Shanghai branch, with huge data volume and strong computing capacity, the system could do intelligent dispatch and supply-demand forecasting, significantly improving operation efficiency and leading the industry to a matured refined operationalphase.

“Qi Dian has the full view data of every city. For instance, if the platform has monitored that bike use frequency and demand in two points are notably higher than other points in Zhuqiao Town of Pudong District, an appropriate number of vehicles in these points could be intelligently calculated before an alarm and dispatch instruction are sent to operation workers. Moreover, city managers could consider increasing public transport onthese roads to improve traffic efficiency.” said Ma.
