During the Qingming festival, public spaces for art located along the Xuhui District’s riverside, such as the Long Museum (West Bund), the Yuz Museum and the Shanghai Photography Center have curated a diverse range of contemporary art exhibitions. The New Century Pond Society, located in the West Bund Culture and Art Pilot Zone, for example, is presenting French conceptual artist Pierre Huyghe’s first solo exhibition in China.
With a great number of exhibitions ongoing, the Xuhui riverside is also seeing the accelerated development of major projects including the Xuhui Riverside Public Open Space, the West Bund Media Port, the Shanghai Dream Center and the West Bund Wisdom Valley.
The Plot B cultural project within the Shanghai Dream Center, located south of Longyao Road and east of Longteng Avenue, covers a total area of 15,000 square meters and is planned to hold a large number of cultural and performance facilities. The largest group of theaters in Asia will be built on this plot, with 6 core theaters to be completed by the end of the year offering nearly 10,000 seats for theatrical performances such as musical plays, dramas and opera.
In the plots F, L and M, the largest IMAX cinema in Asia, some commercial streets and the headquarters building for innovation are also under accelerated construction and are due to be completed by the end of the year. Upon completion, the Dream center complex will be a new landmark for diverse cultures and entertainment.
Longteng Avenue, where the car, bicycle and pedestrian lanes - the three parts of the avenue - had been reconstructed by the end of last year in a way to ensure the entire length of the avenue would be freely navigable for road users, will be further improved in terms of quality this year.
In addition to these tremendous developments, based on the full operation of Longteng Avenue, a night-time lighting project is also planned to be designed and constructed by the Xuhui Riverside Public Open Space within the year. The lighting project will, apart from being functional, create beautiful light effects to showcase the night-time landscape; especially the three lanes, key scenic features and landmark buildings. The night-time lighting project aims to create a magnificent atmosphere for night visits and leisure, further complementing the beauty along the banks of the Huangpu River.
