Ambassador of Ireland to China Mr. Paul Kavanagh

Ambassador of Ireland to China Mr. Paul Kavanagh has a very positive outlook on the cooperation between China and Ireland as he delivered a keynote speech on the 2016 Asia Pacific Ireland Business Forum (APIBF) in Shanghai lately.

The theme for the 2016 forum is "Pursuing New Opportunities: Irish Business in Asia", with a focus on the possible implications for Ireland of Brexit and the impending negotiations between the UK and the EU, as well as the resulting need for Ireland to trade up and deepen political, economic and other relationships with key markets such as China and Asia.

Mr. Kavanagh viewed that it is wise for China to choose a road of sustainable development rather than high-speed economic growth only.

Sino-Ireland economic and trade cooperation has been developing rapidly in recent years. As the only English-speaking country in European Union after Brexit, Ireland offers investors access into EU.

China's investment in Ireland has been growing every year in terms of information, communications and technology (ICT), financial services, etc. And Ireland is making a lot of investments in China in the fields like building materials, supply chain, technology, financial services and so on, said the ambassador.

Speakers at the forum included economic, media and political experts from across the region as well as representatives forum the corporate and sporting world who shared their insights on doing business in the Asia Pacific environment.
