Diverse backgrounds cornerstone of two sessions
From:ChinaDaily   |  2018-03-16 09:22

It's important to speak out and help solve problems

I submitted two proposals this year. One was about medical reform and the other was about adapting scientific and technological breakthroughs to promote them in the marketplace.

When I prepared my proposals, I spoke with senior experts and sought suggestions from colleagues. Before the session began, I worked on the proposals, though the preparation started a long time before. I wanted to ensure my proposals would reflect the actual situation in the country, and that the suggestions included were feasible.

Tens of thousands of medical searches are conducted on the internet every day, so people can learn about their health and which institutes they should consult. Artificial intelligence provides speed and convenience.

However, it's still a challenge to satisfy people's needs, and there is a big gap between supply and demand in the medical industry.

It's been nine years since the central authorities launched the medical reform program. However, some people still find it difficult or can't afford to get proper medical services because the resources are inadequate and unevenly distributed nationwide.

Internet technology could prevent patients from visiting the wrong doctors, avoiding a waste of resources. To help the internet play its role properly, I think public hospitals should be united and a one-stop service online platform should be built to offer consultations.

It could also promote hierarchical diagnosis and treatment, and relieve overcrowding at large hospitals. If some patients were directed to community hospitals or clinics, the efficiency of medical services could be improved.

Every year, the government spends a lot to support scientific and technological research and prepare breakthroughs for the market. However, many companies that receive support don't make that transition.

Instead of receiving pre-transition funding, companies and individuals should be rewarded when they transform successfully. They could be given preferential tax policies in accordance with the economic benefits their breakthrough delivers.

Q&A

How did you feel when you were elected to the CPPCC?

I am honored to be a member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. With this new status, I know I have to shoulder more social and political responsibilities. If my proposal is adopted and helps to improve society, it would be very significant.

What suggestions have you made?

The reforms of medical services, as well as science and technology are the topics I am most concerned about. I want to share my opinions on these topics, and will listen to suggestions from other political advisers and lawmakers. I think medical reform is crucial because it's one of the most important things related to people's livelihoods.

How will you undertake your role in the next five years?

I will participate in social activities with a wider perspective instead of thinking just as a businessman. I will try to understand people's demands and help send their message to the higher levels. I think it's important to speak out and help solve problems.
