Event on education in the post-pandemic era to be held
From:ChinaDaily   |  2021-01-16 20:21

As the COVID-19 pandemic sweeps across the globe, how education plays a more important role in fairness and sustainable development has become a heated issue.

Responding to the General Assembly of the United Nations resolution on the International Day of Education, the 2021 International Day of Education-China Celebration will be held on Wednesday.

This year, the first International Day of Education-China Celebration will draw attention to the theme, "Education Equality and Sustainable Development in the Post-Pandemic Era".

The event will take the form of an interactive dialogue and invite Chinese national and provincial officials, representatives from foreign embassies in Beijing, educational institutions, civil society, heroes on the educational front line and other stakeholders, as well as institution-members of the China Education Association for International Exchange to join the celebration.

Liu Limin, vice-minister of the Chinese Ministry of Education, Stefania Giannini, UNESCO assistant director-general for education and other renowned persons in the field will attend the event and deliver speeches.

Carrying a three-fold purpose, the event encourages participants to explore opportunities for bilateral and multilateral cooperation, fosters dialogue and communication, and tries to revitalize international partnerships in education for sustainable development.

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the event seeks to not only establish a communication platform for the future of education in the post-pandemic era, but also encourages all stakeholders to step up for international solidarity and to place education and lifelong learning at the heart of the recovery and towards the realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The 2021 International Day of Education-China Celebration is co-hosted by the China Education Association for International Exchange and Beijing Normal University.
