Firefighters put out a blaze on a truck loaded with hazardous chemicals after what was described as an accident occurred on the G1501 Expressway about 7pm on Wednesday resulting in the barrels catching fire, Songjiang District’s fire department said yesterday.

When the officers arrived at the scene, the barrels were engulfed by pungent smoke.

The officers controlled the fire with foam. Later 10 barrels that were burned out were moved to a safe area and cooled down by water.

The fire was put out three hours after the accident, and traffic returned to normal.
