Greek goddess Athena becomes a bad spaceship driver and Thor in Norse mythology appears in the form of a cute puppy — all these will appear in the upcoming animated film One Hundred Thousand Bad Jokes II.

A series of iconic roles in Western and Chinese mythologies alongside a human hero embarks a new adventure to seek a treasure.

The movie is the sequel of the 2015 hit first installment One Hundred Thousand Bad Jokes, which raked in 120 million yuan ($17.64 million) to soar as the third highest-grossing domestic animated movie.

The cinematic franchise is based on the same-title animated series, which has accumulated popularity since it was streamed on the animation website U17.com since 2010.

Unlike most cartoon works set for children, the animated series make spoofs of the classic roles in famous fairy tales or mythologies to appeal adult audiences.

Again directed by Lu Hengyu and Li Shujie, One Hundred Thousand Bad Jokes II is set to open across the Chinese mainland on Aug 18.
