Chang Dai-chien art museum to be built in southwest China
From:Xinhua  |  2019-09-06 20:29

CHENGDU, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- An art museum of late Chinese artist Zhang Daqian, also known as Chang Dai-chien, will be built in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

By drawing inspirations from Zhang's self-designed residence, it will combine a museum, an art gallery and a traditional Chinese garden and cover an area of 70,000 square meters.

Sun Kai, son of Zhang's disciple Sun Yunsheng, donated a total of 645 pieces of Zhang's works from different periods and used items to the municipal government on Thursday.

His collection included 384 pieces of Zhang's "fenben," or powder paintings before drawing with ink, as well as hundreds of the artist's letters, seals and stationeries.

This year marks the 120th anniversary of Zhang's birth. Zhang is one of the most well-known Chinese artists in the 20th century and often referred to as the "Picasso of China."

The museum's design has already been completed. Construction will start soon and the museum is expected to open in 2021.
