'Beating' cakes to celebrate the New Year in Shanghai
By:Zhang Kunliang, Wang Jiaye  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2015-12-28 13:50

A cake-making event celebrating the New Year was held at the sales center of Hao-Shi-Feng-Xiang-Yuan property in Nanxiang, Shanghai on Dec 27, 2015.

During the Lunar Chinese New Year, people have the custom of making cakes (or Da-Gao in Chinese language, literal meaning: 'beating' cakes) in many places. And Japanese also have this custom, but they make cakes during the period from Dec 25 to 28. A participator said that "Da-Gao in the two countries are similar in how to 'beat' but different in how to eat. I feel it's interesting".

Besides making cakes, the New Year celebrations also included taiko drum, shamisen (a kind of musical instrument) and kimono show.

Feng-Xiang-Yuan property is affiliated with Shanghai House Jianan Property Development Co. Ltd.
