Shanghai July 19 - Spanish wheelchair boy Albert Casals finally made his Chinese trip last week and he shared a documentary “Little World” with Shanghai audience at Boku Bookstore on July 13. He also brought the Chinese version of his book “The World in a Wheelchair”.
“People travel for different reasons. Some travel for escaping from troubles; some travel for exotic delicacy; some travel for beautiful scenic spots; and some travel simply for visiting relatives...” Albert Casals traveled for new people and he was so excited to see so many Chinese faces in Shanghai.

“If you stay at home, you only know one way of doing things. If you travel around the world, you know various ways.” Alert told audience after sharing his documentary.
He left home at Barcelona when he was 15 and traveled for the first time to Italy. There he traveled alone on wheelchair to Milan, Venice and Naples and decided to lost way, to sleep on the beach, to joy in other travelers, to find free residence… Later, he became so enthusiastic about travelling and he went on to France, German, Denmark, Serbia, Thailand, Japan, Peru, etc.

Unlike most backpackers, he got leukemia when he was five and had to use a wheelchair when he was eight. At the sharing session, Albert told Shanghai audience that the first thing in his memory about traveling is when he was five he read a book called “One Thousand and One Nights”. However, he couldn’t travel until 15 in Spain and he longed so much to travel. He remembered in Christmas, he never asked for toys but ask money to save for travelling in the future.

When he was 15, he started to get on road. Now he has already traveled in 25 countries on the wheelchair and without much money. In 2010, the 20 years old Albert Casals published his book “The World in a Wheelchair” in Spain and now it has a Chinese version. In 2013, the documentary about his travelling experiences “Little World” won awards at films festivals in Holland, America and Norway. Now he came to China and hoped to explore the land with his girl friend.

His travel experiences were full of surprises and adventures. He told audience that at one time in Thailand, people told him not to sleep on the beach because the storm may come. But he went on to sleep on the beach anyway. In the morning, the hurricane came and washed his wheelchair into the ocean. So he had to climb alone to a safe place. Finally, he found there was nothing to fear in the world.
For Albert, life is a miracle. “The most important thing is you know what you want. If you want to travel, then set out; if you don’t, just stay. Life is so simple.” he said.
