Something to admire at Pudong airport
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2016-12-30 14:46

Shanghai Airport Authority yesterday opened an art gallery near the boarding gates at T1 terminal at Pudong International Airport to exhibit paintings and sculptures from local artists.

The Shanghai Administration of Culture, Radio, Film and TV signed an agreement with the airport authority to change the exhibits twice a year.

The gallery is part of the administration’s plan to hold free cultural and art exhibitions at local airports, railway stations, malls and public squares to promote arts to the public, said Wu Xiaoming, the chief artistic officer with the administration.

With the new art gallery, the airport authority aims to present the local Haipai, or Shanghai-style culture to the world, said the authority’s general manager Yuan Shunzhou.

Twenty-two oil paintings are being exhibited at the gallery as the opening exhibition. The modern artworks painted by Xiao Gu, the director at Shanghai Oil Painting and Sculpture Institute, display the relationship between traditional Chinese culture and nature.

The airport authority also launched a maritime exhibition yesterday along with the China Maritime Museum. As the highlight, a model of China’s first aircraft carrier Liaoning is displayed at the exhibition.
