By:Jiang Wenran  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2017-09-18 17:56

Shanghai, September 15- Due to a comprehensive overhaul starting from October 9, the Shanghai Museum will be closed every Monday while the rest of the time it will still be open to the public.

Since its opening in 1996, the Shanghai Museum has been running non-stop for 21 years, with varying degrees of deterioration in the buildings and facilities.

Li Feng, Deputy Director of the museum, said that the safety of cultural relics and the public was mainly taken into account.

Some of the key equipment is in a state of overload or over-use, which may pose a threat to the safety of cultural relics, buildings as well as visitors, said Li Feng.

According to the current solution, the overhaul will be divided into two phases. The first phase of the project starting on October 9 aims to solve the safety problem of equipment and facilities and construction.

Exhibition system and the function layout will be comprehensively adjusted in the second phase, so as to improve the Shanghai Museum’s public cultural services.

During the overhaul, the rest of the time will be normally open except for the weekly closing. Permanent and scheduled exhibitions will not be affected, according to the current work arrangement.
