Embarrassment in learning Chinese
By:Zheng Qian  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2018-11-28 09:23

Pim is an international student from Thailand. She studies in the School of Management in Zhejiang University.

Recently, she posted a moment on Wechat, which aroused interest and resonance.

Pim has been learning Chinese for three years. On this occasion when she was doing her Chinese homework and filling in the blanks, she made a joke by writing down her answer as,“I used to be a local resident here, but now I am a resident in your heart,” instead of the correct for the question“You are not a local resident here?”

Pim frankly said that she actually knew what the right answer was and just made fun of the Chinese words. She cited two other jokes.

Q: Which noodle (mian) do you like?

A: I like your heart (xin li mian).

Q: Do you know which candy is the sweetest?

A: The wedding candy of you and me.

Pim explained that she learned these jokes from her Chinese friends. She remembered them because they are funny. However, she also admitted that Chinese is really hard to learn.

For other international students from the International Campus of Zhejiang University, they face up to similar difficulties in learning Chinese. Here are some embarrassing examples.

A.Buddy, do you have any misunderstandings about pandas?

B.What a penetrating conclusion of the Chinese people!

C.Maybe you do not know that “I thank you!” has got some derogatory sense in the current times.

D.Why is there nothing but whining and dining in your writing?

To conclude, a day with no class is a day with happiness!
