For those who are fond of ice creams, being able to enjoy the delicacies every day is like a dream. One girl in Shanghai has had her dream come true, thanks to her talented taste buds.
Feng Yuanyuan is a post-’95 girl. After graduation, she was hired as a food tester at Zhongjie 1946, a traditional ice pop brand. By tasting ice creams, she earns more than RMB 10,000 per month.
As Feng said, her routine work is to taste the ice cream products made by her own company or others and then make judgments and comparisons.
After two years of work, she has categorized ice cream tastes into three types, similar to how perfumes are evaluated: top, middle and base notes.
After tasting one ice cream, she needs to wash her mouth and wait for 20 minutes before tasting the next one. Each day, she has to taste over 20 ice creams. The unfortunate by-product of eating so much ice cream of course is that she has put on five kilograms.
Feng has tasted several weird flavors, such as pepper flavor and lion’s mane mushroom (hericium erinaceus) flavor. To protect her tongue, she avoids eating spicy and oily food.
“This job has made my dream of eating ice creams as I like come true,” Feng said, adding that she has loved ice creams since childhood. She is happy that her work involves her favorite food and even happier to see the ice creams tested by her become favorites on the market.
