As one of the first batch of AI (Artificial Intelligence) pilot application scenarios in Shanghai, Shanghai Shixi High School(SSHS) has made fruitful explorations in the “AI + School” project and built a course-based AI laboratory, the nation’s first in a high school.

“Shanghai Shixi High School is the nation’s first high school to build such an AI lab,” said Lin Qin, the deputy principal of SSHS, allowing AI courses to be introduced earlier than in other schools. This AI laboratory is an important part of the school’s experimental platform for scientific and technological innovation.

In the construction of “AI + education” in SSHS, the teaching and learning platform based on AI technology plays an important role. This platform includes AI technology-based learning resources, a student learning behavior record, diagnostic evaluation and analysis systems, and a push notification system which helps to promote the reform of students’ learning mode and personalized learning.

“The best application of AI in education is the revolution of teaching and learning methods. AI technology should be used to reform the whole teaching process, content and mode,” Lin said.

“For example, students are now divided into classes according to their age. However, if AI technology is applied to the school, students can be classified into corresponding classes according to their actual learning situation, breaking down the traditional grade and age-based class form.. This will undoubtedly be a great boost to students’ learning,” said Lin. It is said that the school will first carry out this experiment in mathematics classes.

The school will also focus on the construction of an intelligent education environment and subject classrooms. At present, the scheme of classroom renovation has been finalized. Starting from this summer vacation, the environmental renovation project will be implemented in stages to achieve a series of intelligent education goals by 2020.
