According to data from Ctrip, the number of tourists going to Xi'an has skyrocketed recently. 42 percent of the tourists who have recently visited Xi'an said that their trips were influenced by the hit TV series “The Longest Day in Chang'an”, with 15 percent of travellers choosing Xi’an just to visit the same places in the famous TV series.

Among those who have not yet traveled to Xi'an, 59 percent of people said they would visit the city in the near future to experience today’s prosperous Chang'an (the ancient name for Xi'an). Film and television productions are affecting all aspects of people’s lives. How much impact will these works have on tourism? In the survey, 71 percent of people said they believed that film and television, literature and comics would partly impact tourists’ choices of destinations, while 14 percent believed that these effects would be particularly significant.

What do the affected tourists want to experience most when they go to their destinations? According to the survey, the largest proportion of respondents chose a "gourmet experience", accounting for 27 percent of the total. The rest were a cultural experience, natural scenery and architecture.

After analyzing the survey results, experts from Ctrip found that Chinese tourism has entered a new era, with tourists following a new model tourism development and travel motivations changing, among which film and television literature plays a critical role.
