Overseas Chinese in Shanghai are making their endeavor to contribute to China’s cause of winter sports.

Over four million yuan (57.4 million USD) was raised for helping returned overseas Chinese at the 2nd Overseas Chinese Charity Night on January 5. More than 400 people participated in the event. The charity event was organized by the Shanghai Overseas Chinese Foundation (SOCF). As an NGO, the SOCF began to organize Overseas Chinese Charity Night in 2019.

In response to the initiative of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, the attendees on January 5 also donated for the construction of an ice and snow museum for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The first item for auction was a pair of calligraphy works by overseas Chinese artists. It was later won by Qiu Feili, executive vice director of the SOCF, at 100,000 yuan (14,355 USD). The amount of money will be given away to the construction of an ice and snow museum for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Being able to donate to the museum is a pride for each and every overseas Chinese, said Qiu. It is also a call for Chinese people both in China and abroad, which means a lot. The auctioned item, according to him, also represents the dream of each overseas Chinese, and their wishes to the 24th Winter Olympics and their motherland.
