Riding a bicycle with a long dress on may cause an accident if the dress becomes entangled with the wheel. However, with AI technology, such a security risk will be greatly reduced.

At the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2020, which opened in Shanghai on July 9, Hello-bike, the bike-sharing company backed by financial technology behemoth Ant Financial, announced an AI-based algorithm road safety system that can sound an alarm in case of transportation risks of bumpy roads and clothing becoming entangled.

Named after Hermes, the Greek mythological character, meaning “the patron saint of travelers”, the system can also check the bike and give an alarm before users unlock it.

According to Liu Xingliang, Hello-bike’s chief data algorithm scientist, in the future shared bikes are also expected to provide intelligent solutions in certain scenes such as warning riders of carriers being loaded with heavy objects over 5kg, sensing drunk driving and guiding standardized parking.
