Xu Kai, a post-90s generation man, has gone viral on the internet for his photos of Chinese rural old people.

Ever since he was in university, Xu has been doing this. Each time he has gone to rural areas, he has taken photos of the local old and then gifted the prints to them.

Xu Kai said that for most of the elderly who agreed to be photographed, talking with a young man like him gave them comfort in their lonely life. With each subject Xu spends hours listening to them.“Some elderly people perhaps hadn’t spoken to a stranger, especially a young one,, for such a long time,” said Xu. What impressed Xu most in the past 10 years was that two or three elderly women were even moved to tears after chatting with him and telling him their home life stories, and this even moved himself to tears.

Up to now, he has photographed hundreds of rural elderly.
