6 new confirmed local COVID-19 cases have been reported in Shanghai as of 24:00 January 21, announced experts at a press conference held on January 22.
The first case is a 56-year-old man who is a logistics worker at the Shanghai Cancer Center Affiliated with Fudan University in Xuhui district.
Contact tracing led to the discovery of five other cases. All of the six patients have been transferred to Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center for treatment in isolation.
The Zhaotonglu residential neighborhood in Huangpu district and the Salvo Hotel where the confirmed patients live and work have been categorized as medium-risk areas.
As of 12:00 on January 22, 112 close contacts of the six patients have been traced for quarantine and nucleic acid tests, and all showed negative. The second test will be conducted 24 hours later. The 234 close contacts of those 112 people have also been identified and tested, of which 205 showed negative as of the reporting time.
