Shanghai to Guangzhou maglev plans under consideration
By:Wu Qiong   |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2021-02-23 10:45

The Shanghai-(Shenzhen-)Guangzhou Maglev has been put on the agenda of the Guangdong provincial government. When the maglev line opens, it will take only 2.5 hours to travel from Shenzhen to Shanghai.

As per the Territorial Spatial Planning of Guangdong Province (2020-2035), the Southeast province has, for the first time ever, put forward a plan for the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao and Shanghai-(Shenzhen-)Guangzhou high-speed magnetic levitation lines, in an effort to improve urban and suburban residents’ transportation quality. After the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao maglev line opens, the travel time from Shenzhen to Beijing will be reduced to a mere 3.6 hours if the estimated speed is 600 kilometers per hour.

When it comes to the Shanghai-(Shenzhen-)Guangzhou Maglev, it is reported that the Guangzhou-Shenzhen section will be first put into construction. At an international conference held in Shanghai in September 2020, He Huawu, deputy chairman of the Chinese Academy of Engineering pointed out that the Guangzhou-Shenzhen section had been under consideration for a speed of 600 km/hour along with the Shanghai-Hangzhou section. According to him, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen section will run for 110 kilometers, with stops at East Guangzhou, Dongguan Gedi and Shenzhen Xiangmi Lake and is expected to link with Kowloon Station in Hong Kong in the future.
