Tesla’s Shanghai R&D Center and Shanghai Gigafactory Data Center were completed on October 25 and will be put into use in the near future.
That represents a further step in the electric-automobile manufacturer’s localization process in China, and a new avenue for Tesla's overseas research and development efforts.
Based on that, the company aims to bring products and services that are more in line with the needs of Chinese consumers, provide new thinking for multinationals and drive the sustainability of globalization.
As the first beyond the United States based on complete vehicle development, the R&D Center will be equipped with a full team including software, hardware, electronics, materials, power and energy engineering. It will not only upgrade the localization strategy, but also keep pace with the international trends in New Energy Vehicles development.
It is reported that there will be 28 labs in the Center, which will also take part in R&D related to global AI machine learning. In the future, it aims to become a comprehensive R&D center with a scale equivalent to that in the US.
As for the automaker’s data center in Shanghai, it will be used to store China’s operations data in manufacturing and production.
