Exploring new business forms has become an approach for the upgrading of many shopping malls, as fresh and new scenarios with social functions have become popular among the younger generation. The recently-opened Comedy Mart on Shanghai’s busy business zone has therefore provided them with a new place for socialization.
(A poster on Weibo says the Comedy Fair will be open from Oct. 24-30.)
An immersive gathering place of stand-up comedy, Comedy Mart, located at the busy Huaihai Road commercial circle, is jointly created by Shanghai Plaza and Owl Comedy. By presenting a business model of “comedy fair”, it combines business with stand-up comedy, offering the young people a new place to hang out after work or during weekends.
Founder of Owl Comedy, Shi Yan, talked about how the inspiration of the “comedy fair” came into being. In his hope, there will be a comedy space that meets the needs of the Chinese market and a platform for face-to-face communication with those who love stand-up comedy. Therefore, the niche culture will be understood and accepted by more people, while young performers will find a stage to shine and produce better works and talents.
