Shanghai started vaccinating residents aged between 6 and 11 against COVID-19 on Saturday with careful preparations and arrangements made at several vaccination sites throughout the city. The vaccination process is in an orderly manner.
"Come on. You are brave! Look! Is the injection not painful at all? It’s OK. You're excellent!" These were some of the comments heard when the reporter from Eastday.com went to the vaccination site on East Longhua Road in Huangpu District, where the fourth and fifth grade students were receiving the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines accompanied by their parents. The students could receive vaccines almost as soon as they arrived at the vaccination site as they had made an appointment in advance. Shen Yi, a fifth-grade student, said that his parents had already taken vaccines, and he urged his mother to make an appointment for him as soon as possible when kids aged between 6 and 11 were able to take vaccines."My mother told me not to be afraid of vaccination because it is not painful at all, and you can have protective immunity to the disease," said Shen Yi.
Many children who received vaccines were as brave as Shen Yi. But there were still individual kids who were afraid of the injection. One boy wore two masks, one normal and another to cover his eyes so that he was not afraid to avoid seeing the needle.
Xu Hongxia, deputy director of the Huangpu District Health Commission, said that there are more than 2,000 students who had made appointments for vaccination on Saturday. The characteristics of the age group were taken into account: there are pediatricians, anesthesiologists, and psychologists at vaccination sites. In addition, more small stools are available to these younger children.
Mr. Liu, who brought his daughter to receive the vaccine, said that his child takes the flu vaccine every year. After COVID-19 vaccination, it will not only enhance the immunity but also make his family feel more at ease.
