The elections of deputies to Shanghai’s district- and township-level people's congresses entered the voting stage on November 16. At 9:00 am, a total of 14,859 residents of the No.7 constituency in Pudong New Area exercised their right to vote at different polling stations. Some of them gathered at the office building of the Shanghai Construction Group (SCG) and lined up to vote.

Deputies to district-level and township-level people’s congresses are directly elected by voters every five years and follow the rules of a competitive election.

According to Ji Huachun, director of the People’s Congress Working Committee Office of Lujiazui Sub-District, there are seven constituencies in Lujiazui Sub-District due to epidemic prevention and control, and 18 deputies will be elected from 25 candidates. In the No.7 constituency, voters will elect three deputies from four candidates. At the polling station, there are specific areas for body temperature check, ballot paper issuance, voting, and ballot box, as well as a voting booth for privacy.

In the afternoon, after the voting in the central polling station and sub-stations is concluded, all the ballot boxes will be gathered together and opened. The ensuing processes (including validity checking, calling out the names while counting, and counting the votes), are also conducted in public, and the results of the election will be announced later after review and confirmation by the Pudong New Area Election Committee.
