As one of the three astronauts sent by China to its space station for a record-setting six-month stay, Wang Yaping became the first female on board China’s space station. During a TV show recorded a few months ago, she revealed the difficult journey behind how she became an outstanding astronaut.
Before setting off for space travel, one has to undergo rigorous learning and training day after day.
She still remembers the first time she met Yang Liwei (China’s first astronaut in space) in the Beijing Aerospace City. The first question she asked him was:“What is the most difficult thing about becoming an astronaut?” The answer she got was one word:“Learning.”
Since then, Wang has had to learn more than 30 subjects including advanced mathematics, astronomy and anatomy.
