A Shanghai uncle has collected more than 60 vintage bikes over the past three decades, and thus has a garage full of antique bikes.
Gong Zhiwei is a Shanghai native. As he recalled, back in the 1970s, most people rode bicycles for daily commuting. Gong rode over 50 minutes to work. As time went by, in the 1990s, people’s lives improved. In some used bike markets, Gong saw many old bicycles and became interested in collecting them. Some were even Japanese bikes. The vintage bikes were repaired and Gong sometimes rides them to keep them in good condition.
Gong is happy to restore the original glamour of the bikes. He hopes there will be a bike museum in the future, so as to convey a low-carbon lifestyle with the inheritance of national industrial techniques.
