A video of a German named Thomas (well-known as “Afu” in China) spending a day in Shanghai experiencing being a hotpot restaurant waiter has gone viral.
After a day of surprises and shocks, he said, “I used to think being a waiter was easy. But it is very demanding. Serving food seems easy but it needs lots of skills.”
While greeting the customers, to providing table service, Thomas has to stand all day long. At the lunch break, a young waitress told him that they often have to walk at least 20,000 to 30,000 steps each day in the restaurant.
Some customers recognized him despite his wearing a mask, which made him very happy. However, he still made some errors while working. When he was serving a table, he scolded a customer and got a complaint. His master helped him to deal with the little crisis. “I thought I could finish today’s task easily, but you should pay attention to lots of details.”
“Each profession needs to be respected,” said Thomas at the end of the video.
