Two locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported in the city on Thursday (December 2), said a spokesperson at a municipal government press conference.
The first local patient, aged 74, traveled by train to Shanghai on November 18, and stayed in a residential area in Huamu Sub-district, Pudong New Area.
The second case is her daughter, aged 44. She took the same high-speed train as her mother. They had a fever on the evening of December 1 and went to see doctors at the Eastern Division of Renji Hospital.
Both of them have been transferred to the designated hospital for treatment. As of 5pm Dec. 2, a total of 146 close contacts have been tracked down and are under medical observation.
1,157 environmental samples were collected, of which seven showed a positive nucleic acid test result.
Lane 186 Mudan Road in Huamu Sub-district has been listed as a medium-risk area, while the risk levels of other places across the city remain unchanged.
Our prevention and control are in place if everyone follows the epidemic prevention measures 24/7, and pay attention to details. Even if there are some scattered cases, we have strong confidence, said Dr. Wu Fan from Shanghai's expert coronavirus treatment team.
