People in Shanghai know that there is a Dashijie (the Great World Amusement Center). Now there is a Xiaoshijie (meaning “Small World” in English) open to the public in Yangpu district.
Formerly a branch of Shanghai’s No. 3 Department Store, it has undergone several renovations, since it first opened in 1988. This year, with the help of Tongji Architectural Design Group, it has been redeveloped into a community commercial center.
Brand stores like Hema, Starbucks and COCO, also make the “Small World” more appealing to the younger generation.
On the second floor, there is a replicated version of an old Shanghai Street, a shared community space of 400 square meters.
