Youths become ‘balcony farmers’ in cities
By:Wu Qiong  |  From:english.eastday.com  |  2021-12-17 09:57

Though living in small flats in big cities, more and more young people, especially those in Shanghai, have fallen in love with planting vegetables on their balconies.

From seeds to farming tools, all the necessities can be bought online. Data shows that 60 percent of the buyers of plant seeds on e-commerce platform Taobao are people born from 1995, and Shanghai is the No.1 city in terms of the rate of plants on balconies, followed by Dongguan and Beijing. While planting and caring for the vegetables, the young “balcony farmers” feel relived from the pressure of a fast-paced urban life.
