When it comes to new landmarks in Shanghai, the Hanging Gardens with 1,000 trees along the Suzhou Creek is a must on the list. At 5:30pm on Dec. 22, the trees will be officially lit up, making the structure look like a magic floating forest.
Named Tian’an Thousand Trees, it is a shopping complex project built on Moganshan Road, Putuo District, as the city’s only mountain-shaped shopping mall. It integrates commerce, office, hotel and other business formats, with a total construction area of 300,000 square meters.
The mountain-like structure is a creation of Thomas Heatherwick, the designer behind the UK Pavilion at the World Expo Shanghai 2010 and the London 2012 Olympic cauldron.
