Five years on, “Sleep No More” is back in another format. A special exhibition has opened to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the classic drama being staged in Shanghai.
The exhibition will be open through January 16, 2022 at the Tank Shanghai art center. Apart from that, “The Burnt City”, a new large-scale immersive mask show by Punchdrunk, will be introduced in 2023, announced a producer of the Shanghai edition of “Sleep No More”.
“The Burnt City” tells the legend of how a mythical world composed of gods and mortals rose from the burning ashes after the breakout of the Trojan War.
A pioneering immersive drama, “Sleep No More”, an award-winning theatrical experience that tells Shakespeare’s classic tragedy Macbeth through a darkly cinematic lens, debuted in Shanghai back in December 2016.
Over 440,000 people have seen the show over the past five years, with an average attendance rate of 95% and a total revenue of 380 million yuan, ushering in a “golden era” of immersive performing arts.
