In 2022, a hydrogen bus fleet will run on the streets of Shanghai, marking the first time for the city to carry out the commercial operation of intelligent connected hydrogen-powered buses. Residents in Jiading, Jinshan, Fengxian and Lingang will be able to take a ride on the buses starting from January 2022.

Compared with pure electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) boast unique advantages. It takes about 15 minutes to refuel, much faster than the charging time of electric vehicles (usually 3-4 hours). The mileage of FCVs is also up to 400 to 500 kilometers, greater than petrol buses and thus an advantage for long-distance travel. At the same time, FCVs are freeze-resistant, as they can achieve a rapid start at minus 30°C without auxiliary heat.
