The world's largest artwork bonded warehouse will be located in Waigaoqiao area of Shanghai Free Trade Zone. When it is put into use in 2017, the complex will offer whole-link services including artwork trading, auction,appraisal and evaluation. The value of the collections stored here is expected to reach RMB 100 billion Yuan.
Five checkpoints will be set up from inside to outside of the warehouse with the reinforced concrete walls to be 40 cm thick. High pressure water mist fire protection system can not only extinguish smoke and fire, but also not hurt the collections.
Covering an area of 68,000 square meters, Shanghai International Art Bonded Service Center that contains the warehouse has completed the design and will begin construction at the end of the year, said the operator of the center.
The warehouse will become the China's first artwork bonded service center which acquires the certification by UL, the global third-party testing and certification authority.
With the hardware facilities are gradually complete, an emerging artwork trading center in Asia-Pacific region will be created in Shanghai and the free trade zone will become the test land for new functions in the fields of culture and arts, promoting Chinese culture going out and attracting outstanding overseas artworks coming in, said Hu Huanzhong, general manager of the operating company of Shanghai International Art Bonded Service Center.
