Pool shut after children in strife
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2017-05-17 11:29

TWO children almost drowned in a swimming pool on Sunday, and one of them remains in intensive care, Shanghai Xinhua Hospital said yesterday.

Haimingzhu Swimming and Bathing Center, located on Meizhou Road in Yangpu District, closed its pool on Monday and staff said that they did not know when it would be reopened.

The 9-year-old child who is in intensive care went to the Haimingzhu pool on Sunday with his younger cousin and two adult relatives.

A manager of the facility told a local news blog on Monday that investigation about the incident was underway, but the children were immediately rescued from the water when they got into difficulties.

Both were taken to hospital, and the younger one recovered after treatment, the hospital said.

The district’s sports bureau said the pool was owned by a private business. Police said they were not involved.
