Bus ride ends with 15 years’ jail for drugs

A 56-year-old man caught with nearly 200 grams of methamphetamine has been sentenced to 15 years in jail.

Jing’an District People’s Court said the man surnamed Sun was carrying the drugs on a bus going to Baode Road last December. When he alighted, the police were waiting for him.They seized 199.35 grams of methamphetamine, or ice.

As he had been jailed twice for drug crime and fraud, he was given a harsh punishment, the court said.

Sun was among the eight drug offenders jailed by the court on Tuesday. All eight are jobless, and their average aged 51.6 years old. Two of them were convicted of drug trafficking, the rest illegal possession of drugs.

One of the eight, surnamed Xu, is a woman in her late 50s, who had been jailed for drug offenses and released in 2015. She was caught selling ice to a drug addict. Police also seized 13.66 grams of ice from her home. She received an eight-year jail sentence.

The eldest of the eight, surnamed Xu, aged 60, was sentenced to four months’ detention for trading heroin.
