Foreigners offered chance to explore traditional music
From:Shanghai Daily  |  2017-08-08 01:29

SHANGHAI Conservatory of Music welcomes expatriates to join its second “Chinese Traditional Music Institute” program, from August 31 to September 2. Themed with “Getting Closer to Shanghai,” the program offers participants a chance to explore traditional Chinese music and related culture.

It was first organized by Shanghai Music Art Development Center of Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2015, and is making a return this autumn.

In the three-day program, participants are expected to learn farm songs, taste the traditional Grandma’s Tea in Qingpu District, visit Shanghai National Music Instrument Factory to learn about Chinese instruments-making, and learn about facial makeup and experience relating to performing techniques at Shanghai Yueju Opera House.

Certificates will be granted to each participant at the end of the program. Those who prove adept with Chinese songs will be invited to the TV Program “Sing the Chinese” on Dragon TV.

Amateurs studying traditional Chinese culture, especially those with talent in dance or musical instruments will have priority in admission.

Application is required via e-mail to shmadc2015@126.com by August 15. The application should cover personal information including name, gender, nationality, contact, scanning copy of passports and artistic talent. Those interested in singing on Dragon TV should also upload short video or audio clips that exhibit their skills.

Further information can be obtained by telephoning 021-64311240.
