Chinese and overseas cities, companies, universities and organizations showcase the innovative programs in the container pavilions at Tongji University's Jiading Campus over the weekend.

Self-driving tricycle that can carry both humans and goods, a drone with a “cloud” that hover above people to give shade from hot sun are among the innovations on display on campus of Tongji University in the city's Jiading District.

The innovations are projects from 111 Chinese and overseas cities, companies, universities and organizations, ranging from Espoo of Finland, Miami of America, Suzhou of China, Massachusetts Institute of Technology to Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

This is part of the first World Innovation and Entrepreneurship Expo, which was unveiled on Saturday and jointly hosted by Jiading District government and Tongji.

At the opening ceremony, the expo released a statement, calling for “seamless cooperation between enterprises, universities, cities and organizations in sharing latest technologies, ideas, models, cases, experiences, market and environment of innovation” to build up a global innovative and entrepreneurial community.

The expo will go on for one year and hold activities, including exhibitions, summer camps and forums.

From July to September, a series of activities will also be held, including the China-US Young Maker Competition, FABO science camp and the international STEAM education forum.

The world famous Maker Faire will also come to Shanghai for the first time and Slush, a global event that connects startups and tech talent with investors, executives and media, plans the largest event in China.

From January next year, the expo will launch week-long activities in themes of future construction, future living, future transportation, future economy, future health and future culture until the end of the expo in May.
