Fifty students from different schools participated in a drawing event at Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal in Hongkou District on Monday, as part of a series of events in the run-up to this year’s Maritime Day of China on July 11.

One of the students Wang Qiyue painted a picture of her family flying with an umbrella and watching a whale playing with fish. She said her vision of an ocean was human beings living in harmony with sea creatures.

Selected paintings will be presented at the opening ceremony of the Maritime Day and printed on T-shirts and postcards.

Shanghai’s traffic authority said there will be an open day for the public to admire the ships on Huangpu River. Among others, China Maritime Museum in the city will highlight life on the sea while also showcasing China’s rich history of voyaging and the Belt and Road Initiative.
