Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong led his delegation to visit Macau from August 21 to 22.

During his visit, Ying met Fernando Chui, chief executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region, and presided over the signing ceremony of Shanghai-Macau cooperation agreement. He also inspected Macau’s urban planning and preservation of historical sites and constructions jointly built by Shanghai and Macau.

Shanghai and Macau have had frequent exchanges and cooperation and have achieved great results. Shanghai and Macau have signed the memorandum to co-host the Shanghai-Macau Cooperation Year;the memorandum of carrying out cooperation in the convention and exhibition industry; the cooperation memorandum of deepening the financial cooperation between Shanghai and Macau; and the cooperation memorandum of the regional youth exchanges between Shanghai and Macau.

While presiding over the signing ceremony, Ying said Shanghai will take the opportunity of the Belt and Road Initiative to carry out deeper cooperation with Macau to better benefit the people in both places.

Shanghai welcomes Macau to participate in the upcoming China International Import Expo in November. The city hopes it can carry out more exchanges among art troupes and co-host more tourism events to forge closer cultural tourism cooperation with Macau.

Also, the city would like to have more frequent personnel exchanges and keep promoting the exchanges among civil servants and youths, Ying added.

Chui said Macau and Shanghai have a long history of exchanges and the two have witnessed increasing cooperation in recent years. Shanghai’s strategic positioning as an international center of economy, finance, trade, shipping and a technology and innovation center is complementary for Macau’s strategic positioning as a world leisure tourism center and a commerce service platform for China and Portuguese-speaking countries.

Macau will keep strengthening cooperation with Shanghai and contribute to the well-being of the people and keep making up its efforts for promoting the economic and societal stability in both places, Chui added.

Macau and Shanghai will jointly host the “Shanghai and Macau Cooperation Year” event and carry out annual themed forums, exchange visits, and training programs.

During his visit, Ying also visited the Macau port inspection building of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, which is undertaken by the Shanghai Construction Group.

Zhang Rongshun and Yao Jian, deputy directors of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau S.A.R., Zheng Gangmiao, minister of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Shanghai Committee, and Xu Kunlin, vice mayor of Shanghai, also attended the related events.
