Visitors admire a stone carving at an exhibitionof over 200 antique and modern pieces at the city's Jade Buddha Temple.

More than 200 stone carvings, antique and modern, and seals went on display at the city's Jade Buddha Temple over the weekend.

The exhibition, to November 24, mainly displays artworks made fromQingtian stone from Qingtian County in neighboring Zhejiang Province. It is known as one of China's four famous stones dating back some 6,000 years.

Most of the exhibits were created by Xu Weijun, a master craftsman famous for hisQingtian stone carvings. A highlight of the exhibition is his"The imperial palace in the sky" carving which was admired by world leaders attending theG20 summit in Hangzhou in 2016.

Artworks made by the other three famous stones —Shoushan stone from Fuzhou inFujian Province, Changhua stone or chicken blood stone from Zhejiang's Changhua County and Balin stone or bloodstone from Balin in theInner Mongolia Autonomous Region — are also on display at the temple.

The 79-year-oldQingtian stone-carving master Zhang Aiting donated his stone carving of the Maitreya Buddha to the temple at the opening ceremonyon Saturday. The temple in Putuo District is famous for its two jade Buddha sculptures.
