From:Shine  |  2019-02-06 16:29

Shanghai's highest temperature reached 16 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

The sunny weather will come to an end as continuous rain is set to hit Shanghai starting from Thursday, and a cold front will drag the temperature down by 10 degrees Celsius over the next four days.

Fog and a round of light pollution hit the city on Wednesday morning, with the Air Quality Index reaching 104 at 10am. Tiny particle PM2.5 was the major pollutant.

With the rise in temperature, the index started to fall and air quality is expected to be good again by Wednesday evening, the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center said. They added that the AQI will be between 45 and 65, or "good," in the next two days.

Wednesday's sunny weather added to the joy of the second day of the Chinese New Year, as the city recorded temperatures as high as 16 degrees.

The highest temperature is forecastto sink to 12 degrees on Thursday and further fall to 8 degrees on Friday. Sleety weather can be expected in some areas on Sunday, with temperatures falling to between 2 and 6 degrees.

Wind will begin to build in the latter part of the Spring Festival holiday and citizens are reminded to put on more clothes to avoid catching a cold.
