Privatehospitals are investing more in advanced medical equipment in order to compete in the domestic health caremarket.

BrightEye Hospital Group, a private medical group, said on Saturday it had bought four advanced optical surgery machines from Germany.

Withthe first surgical microscope and the first commercial optical coherence tomography, or OCT, for ophthalmic applications, the ZEISS RESCAN 700 gives doctors continuous real time visualization of corneal changes during surgical procedures. The accuracy is one tenth of hair.

Doctorscan check delicate changes in eyes during surgery and better forecast the development of eyes after surgery.

Liu Dongjingfrom Bright Eye said the introduction of the machines can greatly improve safety and accuracy of optical surgery and also reflect the recognition of advanced technology of domestic private hospitals, which are playing more and more important role in Chinese health service Market.

Previously, there were only four such machines in China and none in Shanghai.
