From:Shine  |  2019-12-02 21:29

The Cheng Shifa Art Museum in Changning District is likely to open to the public for a trial run later this month, the city's publicity department announced at a symposium with local CPPCC members on Monday.

Cheng Shifan (1921-2007), one of the founders of Shanghai-style modern art, donated more than 100 of his works and over 200 by other Chinesemasters to the nation.

Construction of the museum began in September 2017 and its basic facilities are almost complete with, on Monday, only the inner display showcases and decorations left to finish.

Meanwhile, Wang Yayuan, deputy head of the department, said at least seven major construction programs involving local cultural sites will be completed over the next few years.

The old Wanping Theater will be expanded with new sections to provide more functions in addition to shows. With the old building being dismantled, a new and larger building will be established with more facilities. It's due for completion by the end of next year.

The new branch of Shanghai Children's Library and Shanghai Library will be finished in June and July 2021. The site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China will also be expanded by July 2021.

The basic construction of the new branch of Shanghai Museum will be completed in 2021.

The Shanghai Grand Opera House, construction of which will start this month, will be in use by the end of 2024.
