A man, 29, has been detained for falsely claiming in public that he was infected with coronavirus, Shanghai police said on Tuesday. The man, surnamed Zhang, was under home quarantine in a village in Jiading District since January 31 after returning to Shanghai. He went for a stroll to the entrance of the village on Monday, where he met a volunteer who reminded him to stay at home but Zhang took off his mask and abused and spat on the volunteer. Zhang also claimed he was infected with the virus, which was ruled out after a hospital check. He will be detained for 10 days, police said.
