Twelve suspects have been caught for allegedly producing and selling fake Victoria’s Secret perfume, Shanghai police said on Wednesday.

The perfume was produced at three locations in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, with the fake labels produced inHeyuanin the same province. The fakes were allegedly sold over the Internet from a shop in Yiwu in Zhejiang Province.

One of the suspects, a mansurnamedZeng, had his own perfume factory and brand but, according to police, decided to produce the fakes after the business failed.

Zengallegedly told the police a bottle of the fake perfume cost just 10 yuan (US$1.4), but he sold it for 50 yuan.

Police said different batches of the same fake perfume products from his factory had different scents.

During raids on the suspects last month, police seized over 120,000 bottles of fake perfume. Sales are alleged to have amounted to around 30 million yuan.
