Tsinghua student crowned 2016 GE Foundation Tech Award

2016 GE Foundation Tech Award has been announced in Shanghai. Ouyang Liliang from Tsinghua University won the championship and $4,500 for his research on bio printing. Other prizes went to 18 Master and Doctoral students across China.

It is noteworthy that the 2016 winners included two females, which was rare in recent years. After the award ceremony, students also took a tour of GE China Technology Center.

As one of the platforms for GE’s cultivation of innovative talents, the Tech Award is aimed at encouraging practical technology innovation among college students in China, covering areas including energy, water, electronics and electrical engineering, machinery and mechanical processing, chemistry and material science.

Since its launch in 2002, almost 400 students have won the awards, some of whom after graduation started work at GE China.

Xiangli Chen, Vice President of GE and President of GE China Technology Center said that GE will continue to promote personnel training which fosters innovation, through a variety of interactive and collaborative activities among enterprises and colleges, injecting fresh impetus into the long-term development of the enterprise and the industry, and also generating new momentum for China's economy with innovation being the key.

Financed by GE Foundation, the annual awards are hosted by GE China Tech Center and Institute of International Education, and supported by the Foreign Scientific and Technological Exchange Center of Shanghai Science and Technology Committee (STCSM).
